第14单元有put ... in prison这一短语（其中的in可换用into），意为"把......关进监狱"，也常可用其被动式be put in / into prison, 表示"被关进监狱"，其中的prison指"坐牢；被监禁"这一活动（即一抽象概念），其前不必用任何冠词。如：
The police put the leaders of the march in prison. 警察把这次游行的领导人关进了监狱。
He was put into prison for damaging public property.他因破坏公共财产被监禁。
prison构成类似的介词短语还有：be in prison"坐牢"（可表示持续一段时间）；go to prison"去坐牢"；send ... to / into prison"把......送/关进监狱"等。如：
The man has been in prison for no good reason for three years. 那个人无缘无故地坐了三年的牢。
She had killed her husband before she went to prison. 她在去坐牢前杀了自己的丈夫。
The old lady's son was sent to prison for the armed robbery. 老太太的儿子因武装抢劫被监禁。
不过要注意：prison如果指某一个监狱或具体的监狱，其前可用a或the。如：
The girl was born in a prison and was brought up by the prisoners. 这位姑娘出生在监狱里，是由囚犯们抚养大的。
A massive riot broke out in the prison. 那所监狱发生了大规模暴乱。
英语中还有不少类似prison的名词。常见的有：school, college, university, hospital, bed, church, sea, town, home等。试比较：
My son is old enough to go to school. 我的儿子已经到了上学的年龄了。
I am going to the school to see my son's teacher. 我要到学校去见我儿子的老师。(儿子的学校)
The sick man was sent to hospital at once. 那个生病的人被立即送往医院。
These boxes of medicine are to be sent to the hospital. 这些箱药应该送到医院。
We usually go to bed at nine o'clock. 我们通常九点钟就寝。
Please lie down on the bed and let me examine you. 请躺到床上，让我来检查。
When he woke up, the ship was at sea. 当他醒来时，船已经在海上了。
They are looking out toward the sea. 他们朝大海瞭望。
They are in church now. 他们在做礼拜。
They walked as far as the church. 他们一直走到教堂。
